3D Roulette redrakeRealizing how many players appreciate a realistic gambling experience online, many software companies capitalized on technological developments to deliver casino games with 3D animations. Given how the physicality of the spinning roulette wheel has always been a central part of the game, it's no surprise that 3D roulette quickly emerged.

The hyper slick computer animations deliver a breathtakingly real experience for online gamblers, all while offering the full benefits of a RNG software-based game. There's no time pressure, and you can take all the time you need to place your bets. More importantly, because it's a software based game, you can readily play 3D roulette for free in demo mode.

To be clear right from the start, 3D roulette refers to a visual style, rather than a particular game variant's rules. Which means you'll find 3D roulette in both French and American variants. And since the focus in 3D roulette is on the three dimensional and realistic gaming environment, everything is very intuitive.

Bets are placed on the layout, just as in any other roulette game, and some games will also have a racetrack feature. There's a lot to choose from, and our 3D roulette review will walk you through the best games available at online casinos.

3D Roulette Basics

The most important thing to understand is that 3D roulette refers to the three dimensional rendering of the roulette wheel and the game environment. Everything else is open to what game studios want to design for their audiences. You will see very different game mechanics in 3D roulette. Some may use an American roulette wheel with a Double Zero, while others may use a French roulette wheel with just a single Zero.

The odds in French roulette are better because there is just one Zero, and there are also slightly different bets available. The terms used in the betting layout may also vary, unsurprisingly with some French words in French roulette. But all in all, the differences between American and French Roulette are very minor. Many games will also offer racetrack bets, which is especially convenient for placing Call bets.

3D Roulette Game Features

  • Realistic 3D game environment
  • Roulette wheel always visible
  • Racetrack often available
  • Available in French and American roulette rules
  • Software based, RNG game
  • Free play usually available

The animation feels slick and live, but it is still a software-based game. And that is probably the main reason why 3D Roulette is so popular. Because as an RNG roulette game, you can play it for free, unlike with live roulette games. Most online casinos will let you play 3D roulette for free, although you might have to sign up for an account first.

So that you don't have to disrupt the flow, we have added a 3D roulette simulator below so you can see the potential of the game for yourself right away.

The 3D roulette demo above is from Red Rake Gaming. The demo game plays straight out of the browser. Should you burn through the bankroll in the demo game, you can always start with a fresh one by reloading the game - in this demo, the reload icon is in the top left corner of the game screen.

3D Roulette Rules

You will find 3D roulette games with different rules, since the name really just refers to the visual style. But don't worry, there's no learning curve. You will find that the rules for 3D roulette are largely divided into French Roulette or American Roulette rules. So if you already have a basic understanding of roulette, you can get into this right away, especially with a demo game.

How to Play 3D Roulette

Although there might be slightly different rules, all 3D Roulette games work the same way. That is, it all begins when you place your bet.

  1. First choose a bet size within the betting limits. The game's minimum and maximum bet size is set by the game developer or casino, so you might see some variation with each game.
  2. Then, place your bet on the layout, as in any roulette game. Many 3D roulette games will also have a racetrack, which you can also use.
  3. Once you've placed your bet, press the Spin button. This will officially begin the round and spin the roulette wheel. When the wheel stops, wins and losses will be paid or collected automatically.
  4. You can then begin another round by placing another bet.

Most games will also have additional functions to facilitate your play, such as:

  • Preset Bets: If you have favorite bets, just save them here to automate your betting flow. It's especially convenient if you play a combination of bets per round.
  • Autospin: Set the wheel to spin a certain number of rounds automatically. These rounds will all use the same bet. For example, set a bet of $1 on Odds, for 5 rounds.
  • Win Statistics: Many games will also show the results from previous spins to help you make informed bets. Typically, the winning numbers will be displayed for the last few rounds. Other games may even display both hot and cold numbers.

Comparison: 3D Roulette Games from Different Developers

Given that it's really about the look of things, there is a lot of creative freedom in 3D roulette and many game studios have designed their own version of the game. We give you a direct comparison of 3D roulette games from different developers below, so you can choose the right one for you.

Iron Dog

Iron Dog's 3D European Roulette has an absolutely stunning rendering of the roulette wheel. In terms of the rules, it's as per European roulette as the title suggests. It uses a French wheel with just a single Zero, and the La Partage rule is applied. The betting layout is in English.

Playtech

PlaytechPlaytech's 3D Roulette is a lavishly and luxurious game with European roulette rules. The wheel is rightly given the spotlight in the bottom half of the game screen, with the betting layout above. There is also a racetrack available for placing call bets, along with special bets for Red and Black splits.

The layout uses English terms, although you will find that the racetrack bets for Voisins du Zero (Neighbors of Zero) and Tiers du Cylindre (Thirds of the Wheel) remain in French. The wheel itself has only one Zero so you have the best odds.

Red Rake

Red Rake has both 3D American and 3D French Roulette. Both games have a very realistic wheel, a racetrack as well as statistics above the betting layout.

Each game will come with the specificities of its variant. 3D American roulette is played with a double Zero wheel, with inside and outside bets available. 3D French roulette is played with a single Zero wheel, along with the Tiers, Orphelins and Voisins du Zero bets that come with the French variant. With regards to language, the betting layout is in English while the call bets on the racetrack are in French.

3D Roulette Payout and Odds

3D Roulette odds depend on whether it's played with a French or American wheel. The French wheel offers better odds than the American because it only has one Zero instead of two. This brings the house edge for French Roulette down to 2.7% – or 1.35% with the En Prison or La Partage rule – compared to 5.26% in the American variant.

Probabilities, Odds and Payouts by Bet in 3D Roulette

Beyond just the American vs. French roulette wheel. The exact bet you decide to play is also critical to the odds and payout, since they all have different likelihoods of happening. Below is a breakdown on the probability, odds and payouts of the main bets available in 3D Roulette.

Betting Options in 3D Roulette

What kinds of bets there are in 3D roulette will depend if the game goes by the French or American variant. If it is 3D American roulette game, then your betting options will be the inside and outside bets on the layout. If the game uses the French wheel, then you will have the additional option of placing announced bets, aka call bets.

Below is a list of the bets available in 3D roulette. The betting options may sometimes be labelled in French, so we also put their French names here for you as well.

3D Roulette Call Bets - European or French variants

3D roulette games with European or French roulette rules will have additional Call Bets, which are sometimes also known as Announced Bets, or Sector Bets. Like with other RNG roulette games, you will find that a racetrack on screen in 3D roulette so you can easily place these kinds of wagers.

Typically, the racetrack will have these bets marked out:

  • Tiers du Cylindre (Thirds of the Wheel) - the 12 numbers between 27 and 33
  • Voisins du Zéro (Neighbours of Zero) - the 17 numbers on the wheel between 22 and 25
  • Les Orphelins (Orphans) - the 8 numbers on the wheel not covered by Tiers or Voisins
  • Jeu Zéro (Zero Game) - the 5 numbers 12 to 15 on the wheel.

The bet names on the racetrack tend to be in French, and to fit into the space on the racetrack, they are shortened forms of their full names. For example, it is just "Tiers" instead of "Tiers du Cylindre".

Some 3D European Roulette games such as the one from Playtech may have other special bets, like Red and Black split bets.

Coins iconCalled Bets involve a combination of bets to cover the numbers in an entire sector of the wheel, so they always require more than one chip. Or in short, it's always above the minimum bet per round.

We explain what these combinations are in this section on European Roulette Sector Bets. Or alternatively, just click on the called bet you are interested in, and see where the chips are placed and how much it would cost. Even in real money gambling, it doesn't cost you anything until you press the Spin button to start the round.

3D Roulette Tips and Tricks

3D roulette can come in French, American and European variants. Our number one tip is therefore to know which variant you are playing. The French and European games will offer better odds, so that might be worth keeping in mind from a pure numbers perspective.

Then make sure you understand the rules of the game you have chosen. For 3D European roulette games, like the one from Playtech, there might be special bets available. These are always worth checking out, because developers usually add these features because they know players enjoy them. If you're not familiar with what a specific type of bet actually refers to, check in the game's Help or Info tab for clarification.

The realistic gaming experience in 3D roulette makes it the perfect medium for getting a feel for the intricacies of the game at your own pace, as compared to a live dealer roulette game or say a brick and mortar casino in Vegas. So not surprisingly, many players like 3D roulette for its free play in demo mode and see it as a great way to practice.

However, it's important to understand that while playing in demo mode is great as a learning tool, real money gambling gives you a different insight to the necessary psychology involved in successful roulette play. We therefore recommend trying small bets once you have the basics of the game under control. This is the only way to advance your roulette learning. Not to mention the only way to win.

You might be interested in trying roulette systems. These guide your betting size following a win or a loss. Negative progression systems like the Martingale entail laying down more money following a loss and your bankroll may be significantly impacted before you see a win. Use these wisely.

And then in general: once you venture into real money territory, it's important to keep track of your bankroll. Know your budget. Use responsible gambling tools like loss limits if necessary.

  6. Is 3D roulette fair?

1. Which variant is 3D Roulette?

3D roulette is available in American, French and European variants. This genre of RNG roulette is mostly concerned with a realistic, three dimensional computer rendering of the roulette wheel. Therefore, you will find 3D roulette games with rules according to French, American and European rules.

2. Which software company is behind 3D roulette?

3D roulette refers to a genre, rather than a singular game. We have featured the game from Red Rake Gaming for demo purposes. But other developers offer 3D roulette, including but not limited to Playtech and Iron Dog.

3. What is max win in 3D roulette?

Max win is always dependent on the max bet, and this depends on the exact game and casino you are playing at. While bet limits are usually the same across different gambling sites, online casinos may set their own bet limits to ensure they can pay players in case of a large win. At some places it might be $100, although we've also seen the 3D Roulette from Playtech with a max bet of $1,000.

In terms of the win itself, a win on a straight up bet, that is a bet on a single number, will always pay the highest in roulette. This payout is 35:1.

4. Do I have to download a 3D roulette app to play?

You don't actually need to download 3D roulette to play. You can find the game for instant play at many online casinos. These work out of your browser, whether on a desktop computer or a mobile device. Some casinos like Just Casino do offer an app that you can download, but this is a casino app and not a roulette app.

5. Is 3D roulette real money gambling?

Yes, 3D roulette is definitely real money gambling. Many players appreciate it for its free play mode as a RNG roulette game, which is excellent for trying out strategies and honing your skills. However, its true purpose is a real money roulette game. And we really recommend real money roulette once you understand the rules, because having something at stake gives the game a whole different spin and it's much more exciting.

6. Is 3D roulette fair?

If you are looking at a 3D roulette game from a licensed casino site, then yes - 3D roulette is fair as it employs a RNG algorithm and the game is checked for fairness. However, it is important to note that with technology being increasingly accessible, it doesn't take a lot for someone with programming skills to code their own 3D roulette game, which might not be fair. This is why it is important to choose a game from a reputable developer and a licensed casino.
